Urban Framing – Rivington Place by Wanda Yu-Ying Hu and Peter Emery

Urban Framing - Rivington Place is an experimental documentary about the Rivington Place in London, designed by Adjaye Associates. In this film the building itself is the main character and narrator. The story is not only documenting an unspoken conversation between the building's facade and the urban context, but also a visual dialogue with its users. The flux and flows of interwoven images, along with sound provide an unexpected cinematic experience that challenges us to look at architecture and the city in a different manner.

The film was part of Blank Slate Digital Shorts, sponsored by the UK Film Council and B3 Media. It screened at Urbanworld Film Festival, New York and East End Film Festival, London.

The film was directed by Wanda Yu-Ying Hu and cinematography by Peter Emery

Wanda Yu-Ying Hu is an architect, moving image artist and director of Sweetpotato Archimedia, a production company specialised in film about architecture. She has created a unique repertoire of video work, video installations, and short films that explore new ways of perceiving architecture and the built environment. With her passion and knowledge in both fields, she has formed a particular language within the realm of experimental documentaries, focusing on the experiential qualities of architectural space.

Peter Emery is a director of photography and filmmaker. His broad base of knowledge and experience in film allows him to explore ways of bringing a cinematic viewpoint to installations and architecture.
