Over the last year our lunchtime trips to the local italian café in Kentish Town have alllowed us to witness the construction of a new Health Centre serving the local area. Now open and serving the community the building is one of the six shortlisted buildings for this year's RIBA Stirling Prize.

The building aims to set a new standard for primary care. Through a fusion of health practice, architecture and art, the building aims to be uplifting for both staff and patients. Consulting rooms and stairs enjoy views into a triple height central street and waiting area around which the plan is organised. The project champions the idea of cellular flexibility whereby consulting and meeting rooms are assigned to health staff via an electronic booking system.

The judges include Benedetta Tagliabue, Sir John Sorrell and Thomas Heatherwick. The winner will be announced live on Channel 4 on Saturday 17th October.

The building has been designed by architects Alford Hall Monaghan and Morris (http://www.ahmm.co.uk/)
